For the first time, researchers have identified two genetic variants that interact to alter the brain responses to high-calorie foods, a tie that could aid in the development of targeted treatments for obesity and overweight. Researchers at Imperial College London led by Tony Goldstone, MD, PhD, of Consultant Endocrinologist, found that two gene variants — FTO and DRD2 — influenced activity in the brain reward system when looking at pictures of high-calorie foods. The findings will be presented during an oral presentation on Thursday, Nov. 5, at The Obesity Society Annual Meeting at ObesityWeekSM 2015 in Los Angeles, CA.
What does this mean for people with obesity?
“It means they may experience more cravings than the average person when presented with high-calorie foods — that is those high in fat and/or sugar — leading them to eat more of these foods,” said Dr. Goldstone.
To conduct their study, researchers evaluated how two genetic variants near genes called FTO and DRD2 alter brain response in participants who were asked to look at pictures of either high-calorie or low-calorie foods and rate how appealing they found the pictures. This was done using a brain scanning technique called functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
For several years, many have been quick to attribute rising fast-food consumption as the major factor causing rapid increases in childhood obesity. However a new study found that fast-food consumption is simply a byproduct of a much bigger problem: poor all-day-long dietary habits that originate in children’s homes.
The study, titled “The association of fast food consumption with poor dietary outcomes and obesity among children: is it the fast food or the remainder of diet?,” was produced by researchers at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Gillings School of Global Public Health and published in the latest issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
The study’s researchers found that children’s consumption of fast food is only a small part of a much more pervasive dietary pattern that is fostered at an early age by children’s parents and caregivers. - First you wash the prawn and fry it light. Now Put the prawns in a bowl.
- Now peel the Trichosanthes dioica well. Remove the seeds from both ends using knife or chop stick but don’t cut them.

- Now keep the half boiled Trichosanthes dioica in a separate bowl.
- Now grind ginger, onion, garlic, prawn and peanuts along with green chilli. Also add a half lemon juice on it.
- Add a little bit sugar on it. Now grind them well until they mingle properly.
